Search engine optimization is building a site that ranks high in search engines. There are a few things you should do that will make your site rank better. Here are a few tips I always use when I build sites.

  • Text - Search engines need text to pick up key words, without text, your site will not be "spidered" and will not rank well. You want to have at least 200-250 words on your first page, and you want this text to include your keywords at least 2 or 3 times. Try to avoid an all flash page, or a page with a lot of pictures and no text.
  • Links - you need to have links in your site, and they need to work. These links need to link to other pages in your site as well as other web pages outside your site. You should also try to have other sites link to your site. Links are an important part of helping your site achieve better ranking.
  • Titles - each of your web pages needs to have a title that explains the page. Titles are "spidered" just like the other text on your page.
  • Descriptions - your home page needs to have a description and key words. There are several resources available to help you find good key words, you should take full advantage of these.
  • Headers - user header tags on your webpage will help "spiders" find your important words, since a header has a little more importance than regular text.
